Royals rebuilt bullpen fails its first test of the season. In the does category UConn women won the national championship and OU's Blake Griffin declares early for the NB day. -- the soccer's one Obama against saint married tonight's opponents of the tougher saint Oklahoma. It's -- Wednesday edition of sports daily. X 12:40 AM 97 FM. -- -- -- -- -- Always Shane Dennis. Along with Shane Dennis and Woody Austin -- kind enough to join us today and and talk about golf this season the masters coming up to tee off tomorrow morning sane person are you I'm fine thank you for having me glad to have you and I'm sure you're enough masters fantasy pool who that's about the is that correct I had no that's incorrect I have been invited but -- haven't. Pulled the Syria. Well I'm sure you will and I don't know maybe maybe not and really it's always good to see you. Thank you very much are things now are going okay things are going okay and then you'd rather be somewhere down south. Yeah right now bit and your morning and doctors here and you know little bit you're them all blocked. Now miss that. So how is your game how how's your season gone so far we were talking a little bit before the show started you. So it's sort of emotional. Yeah pretty much -- it normally goes you know unfortunate. You know. The weather stinks here retirement come home to a camp practice so you know more in on the weathered it -- How will lower you know once you know were almost the middle of April most of camp practice you know that's pretty said that. You know that that's that's away goes each year beginning in years only preparation time I -- is when I'm actually they're such an -- preparing when you. Have to practice when -- at the site so. -- this is usually when my years starts to turn around a summertime when I can actually practice want to come home in. So I'm looking forward to and got four weeks in a row after this -- so I'm trying to gear up as best I can hopefully get out there today and many minutes in the weather and it's not only been called palaces the wind the wind affect. -- it does because -- again I can't prepare camp practice you know if you're lucky get out there and hit balls but it while you're out there and has blown 40 am going to be trying to hit it three feet off the ground -- not really preparing for what I'm going to see. And it's not really working on my game that's working on getting in in forty miles per hour winds known. Tom police said it's it it's just it's just a tough time of the year every year to beginning of the year because -- I'm at the mercy of mother nature whether or not I can really prepare for an event so. That's why typically -- beginning year I get off to slow starts. I've made every cut so that's good in that I've been playing well enough to at least make the cut promise. There's no consistency and so I keep finish and at the bottom but. Now. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Summer guy anyway and uniformed boys run when he comes off Albion -- I'll be -- so for events coming up one of those -- and got Harbour town which is my favorite golf course next week so if you -- shot maker's paradise. And then you have New Orleans were almost won last year. Tom than you have after that you have the new Wachovia term in which isn't Charlotte and then the players championship the kind of. So and so -- stuff staggered four term. Ruled Willie -- with this if you have any questions for him for 361240. -- talk about a variety of things the Royals opened yesterday and got the game to their bullpen where they think where they think. They're going to be fine with farnsworth Juan Cruz then though of course walking Soria to close things out. Yesterday didn't quite work out -- like Kyle Farnsworth. Gave it up. Big home run to Jim Thome in the Royals lose our opener. This bullpen and any new you know it's one game and I and I witnessed it and experience with the Cardinals on opening day whether bullpen failed. Any concerns about that. Well I know it's hard it's it's easy now out of -- behind sight 20/20 guy but he. You have Ron Mahay down their left -- right yes she did Jim tell me up there in left handed him. I know he's hit 542. Home runs -- -- off farnsworth there's no reason think he mine regularly and may but what's he doing down there. You know he's he's your specialist he's a late inning specialist he's a lefty on lefty. And I've never seen in my life a guy that throws 98 find more barrels. Then Kyle Farnsworth he gives up more hits and more runs than anybody that throws a hundred miles an. I will give in this that home run I've watched over and over that wasn't. Horrible pitch that mean now is totally ruin us outer third but it was up enough where he can get it McConnell and -- enough that. Me don't mess around Jim Thome and I there's plenty of blame to go around. However backtracking a little bit that is just one game but the farnsworth -- history given up just like that. Then do a lot -- do a lot of that with the Yankees went down then the but the Royals this is what they've done they won't gone gotten farnsworth and Cruz took its. The seventh eighth and and then get the ball -- in the ninth and -- a situational guy I don't know this is -- you live and I would your bullpen. And yesterday the Royals died with that a great effort by Gil mash. Seven innings -- do. Yeah very optimistic about the. Royals. I like similar changes you know I mean. In on I'm not the biggest Coco Crisp fan but I think he's a better leadoff men we've had -- while. So you know on its peak in maybe jump start off pencil the better than they've had in the past. You know you're good performances like -- gave you yesterday at the I think you know there's optimism there. Tom but you know like you said it's just one game I mean you can't knock your bullpen on one game they're going to lose the game here and there ever built -- -- -- -- on farnsworth that the Royals left eleven runners on -- said. They had a lot of opportunities that against mark -- and didn't get it done let's get to Jack his -- with us right out of -- Jack. Good morning -- take -- historical question orient the team at Wichita State played last night saint Mary. With that used to be called Saint Mary's in the play. Knows the difference saying merry. But what were they from -- -- leavenworth that the first time we've ever played them yeah totally. I totally different you bet they used to be a an all women's school. And it used to be a junior college and I mean it's. Yeah I it's it's a school that which dusty had never played and I think they just and then coed. Coed just recently wryly yes I think -- in really an -- -- final last night none none and I saw. Now Bob so it it was okay that you weren't there. -- night and he ought to saint Mary I'll be there tonight for the Oklahoma oh sure -- -- well. We get a chance to see any any stock based -- soccer ball it. That play tonight yeah so you ought to be. What does tonight's visit San hot -- fifty cent hot dog nice. So I'll be pretty big crowd we expect to whether it be okay tonight. Yeah I had it better not be blown out his opponent needing you know what's Oklahoma. Rated eleventh. The thirteenth depend on the 45 polls that are out there and they're pretty yeah. Took my time and Missouri this past weekend and they break they have about 341 as a team and I'm 57 home runs. 57 home runs already. Yes already yes. They hit eleven against K state. In one game who. That was that one of the days where the wind was -- Alec you're talking about but. I mean wind blown the next stadium to and we we have. Approached eleven home runs and and eleven -- yeah they they don't lesser out they're going to the right hander with a seven point 77 the RN and I in the suckers are countering with. Freshman Ryan -- slow. You would you would like to think that. They have a little edge in the pitching right there be some pressure on Brian Flynn I mean -- a big lefthander will help. Offsetting left him parents they'll remember -- baker from last year -- He's a good power hitter but. They've got all now line up -- -- guys who can hit so -- you think which dusty would have the the edge there because of some perceived better arms. But there if you were called the Nebraska game Nebraska was the most part all hit and no -- them. Oklahoma is it's more pronounced them in -- they struggled the pits a little bit. Maybe a little more than Nebraska -- they hit some much more than Nebraska does they they -- behind. Playing -- twelve to nine Woody talked about how the weather has affected his preparation for golf. This tonight the unofficial opening of the season because we're finally getting into that. Mid April. Time period where the weather starts to get just a little better Weathers. Hasn't cooperated with with soccer baseball this year so far -- I think yeah I think it's fair statement that Sunday game. This past weekend -- Overcast and cold and windy and and against Illinois State that there was hardly anybody in the stands and I don't blame them I mean a -- gone out either but. It's April and it was cold and -- Indian people were just. -- he kind of tell -- -- people throw your hands up I'm not I'm tired of dealing with this. That the previous two days it was nice but the wind was Howland out of the south now it's overcast and -- more around north and it's cold and shocker for baseball fans of crazy for coming out in the numbers that they do to -- continued view so but I would I would like to think tonight to be 5500 maybe more. He would thank. Don't forget our -- challenge were running that and through the the rest of the day today you can email us at sports daily at KF page radio dot com. Picture three guys that you think you're gonna do well in the masters you winner. And than the score. This the ultimate score of the of that champion. O'Neil what he saw some out of you you little bit to thank about a bit. We we -- your three and I'm sure a lot of people just take those serving go back with a coat tail off when he's picked. What what has been what are some of the story lines out there we all know that the Tigers return -- and his win only storyline and that's is that it's all it's all the media talks about well -- -- some other of them given you and your media member right now would be this is your time to. To give us some others interesting story lines Phil Mickelson is one. You know some of the other guys BJ's banged up BJ's hurt pretty bad so. He sees typically somebody I like get a gust of that I don't know about reader and he's really hurt me not only is back his neck he's got a lot of little. Bumps and bruises please. He's usually one of my guys always taken -- -- and he's now feel very well so. Right now top my list I like I like the -- -- point. Young guys you know I'm a little disappointed and Anthony this year so -- -- Anthony Kim we were the last time here here we talked about him and and how I played solo on the Ryder Cup and now in love to have that edge -- in that. He evidently had some go wrong either in the offseason are beginning of the year. I think it was over overseas users backers someone out and I he hasn't been able -- have shake that solo. Young guys get hurt that's not a good thing in golf is that can be chronic so -- I don't know how he's don't know what's up with him. Interested to see how little room -- mackerel is poisonous first big event. As far as of them major. You know he's played the British but that's you know it's kind of home programs -- -- shifted to see what he does here to -- of but he's your typical people that show up there every year they they should be get Ernie -- don't play good he's playing well he always plays well against it seems like so. You know those are my top two that I would take right now will be Mickelson and Els. While that's that's pretty safe to some why does a less. That's how well you want and I did I wanna I wanna be your top three that is no I maybe I gave you two I gave you two good ones in an all and by the in the Shell game via -- video it was a little dark horse -- -- -- And that just that good the planet Augusta which and you've done now on and I -- through four years. How much of the throw was that the play well in this sternum it was a big thrilled. Way back and in the ninety's want to play the first time in 96 and one ever. It really -- if it was great to get backlash here have been really want to get back from whatever but they've really taken the fun now a golf course. It really is not fun to play the golf courses Morillon. It used to be a lot of fun and not only had you know they're still the mystique and it's still unbelievable atmosphere employees -- But there's no fun in the golf courses anymore they've taken the fun out. And you know he talked to all the veterans you talked all the -- -- -- -- -- practice -- Larry my eyes and you know back in 96 -- play with Arnold in. It's it's just not the same anymore. You know those. You hear about the crowds on the on Saturday and Sunday in the in the back nine charges -- whenever there are there will be no charges the only charges that can possibly come from Augusta now. Are the leaders not going forward or going backwards. Tom because what they've done the golf course they've meant to golf course so long and so difficult on it unless the weather's perfect. That there will be no thirty ones and thirties and thirty two's on the back nine charges he just don't hear those roars. Tom so. Is it ultimately he's taken the fun out of the event for -- for guys like meaningless. What do you think that's. Exclusively because it Tiger Woods well I don't know it's exclusively. Because of rain but what. What most people don't understand is when they say they tiger proof a golf course where they make it easier for in the right by making it that long they just made it easier. They did make it harder for animated easier because. Now you've taken like you said anybody back in the day to -- 31 on on the back nine now only the long -- has chance. I mean obviously if you play an unbelievably flawless nine holes of golf -- 32 on -- nine holes don't care who you are you appear -- -- -- player. But under the gun on Sunday in Augusta. The average player let's say it will take somebody hits it like I do the even known Zach Johnson won a couple years ago he's probably hitting hybrid -- long iron into ten. The same thing into eleven. Twelve is still the same thirteen he's probably never going to get to really never even tried back in the day he would he even he would have gone for. He never even tried to go forward and you know four rounds so that that -- now -- Fourteen used to be a wedge is now he'll probably be hitting anywhere from the short -- to mid iron. Fifteen is no longer reachable foreign -- these are going to try there so they're they're thirteen and fifteen -- out of his window. Seventy and is now again they used to be short -- now a middle middle -- iron. An eighteen is a long iron again maybe even a hybrid. So how's how's a guy like that going to make a Sunday chart. Look what it's it not just a gust of all the the major courses seem to be going to. Tiger proofing why why is that why collided in major championships have a have such a problem with people she in the 64 now on the TV and -- Well I don't know garden who knows -- in the US open I think US opens entirely different to I think US open it has always been in that mold of of of being the toughest tests have nothing wrong with the way they set the open -- up because eventually. Are you said you should. Even par should mean something some days because if you're really that good. You need to be challenged. Because I don't have a problem you know with the US -- that's an event but. But it gust since since US open your -- different avenues and different venues all over the the country. You're you're gonna get your different stuck. Augusta is a gust and it every year -- gusto was the same for. One almost. A good forty some years before they started tinkered went out. There was no reason and you know to keep -- whether. So. Like I said it. It's one golf course that you play every year and they've now changed so drastically it's an entire you eat you almost can't call it just the national anymore. Now Bobby and I've gone round and round comments on what you like to see in a golf turn I don't -- serves in like C. The really good guys and I guess is maybe a little different than what he talked about the US open. When Mickelson plays pretty good and shoot 74. I'm -- C yet been you do don't -- you are likely Minnesota grind that's my favorite tournament because wanted to really really tests. Scores to me aren't aren't all is the most relevant thing it's how you play golf course it's how you set up shots with strategy it's. That's why I love the US open because of brings all of that and apply it there and I and I am kind of little an old agreement with what we want us just about. Hitting the ball the farthest. That takes a lot of players out -- and I know that. -- -- -- Narnia now they sit US opens my favorite event too because again. What the US open does is it actually separated makes the guy who's point in the best the data point in the -- You're not going to find that when you get to a birdie barrage event or two of them event that we you know nowadays blanked this so key but not hitting it straight -- so. Unit tell me they -- it's 30% of the fairways. Is the guy at this point the best that week because he's out because he's hitting it forty yards by me but he's got a wedge into the green and and no rough. As opposed to me hitting 34 clubs Mormon I'm in the fairway you know it. So that's the thing about the US open. That that it least brings the entire field together and I are for a love you. Our other guys and we're talking with Woody Austin will be here for the full two hours today so if you have any questions for him give us call -- other guys out there. Who can who can obviously hit the ball long way but also play. That's strategy tied the game obviously tiger is obviously Obama right in and obviously like I said that's what makes him the best learned the world. But. -- trying to like you said the whole thing about trying to tiger proof it you know trying to make the court so long that he's not hitting wedges and wedges and and whenever. That's that's not what tiger proof is that golf is a golf course if you want to tiger proof a golf course. Do likely do it US opens put the rough up. Build some bunkers. And treat bonds is let's face it together and drive it's so straight anymore and that's what's tiger that's how you prepare golf course to a took. Limiting guide it's not playing his best making the course longer just allows those guys. The the bubble Watson's the longer players the guys that it is so far it gives them more of an avenue because if you look at it from a strategic standpoint or from me. A proper standpoint if there's -- if I'm playing golf course from final hole it's 420 yard. That. The bunker to Carrey is to 65. I've got a chance unless away unless the wind is against me I've got a chance to hit over that bunker and get it into a proper spot now let's take the whole must add thirty yards doing which is what they like to do name like to make of 450. And now that -- -- to 85 or whatever. I've got no fairway to hit that now because the bunkers now in my fairway but the other guys just laugh and it makes donated over. So now who's who who got who got advantage in who got did exactly they didn't tiger proof -- they made it easier because now he still has that. Wide area to hit into -- my areas now hat. 22 who benefit. Format. Was probably need to go to let's get the boy did he has a question for Williams and I'll take a break in the old pitcher cluster hello -- What -- camaraderie the little boy. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- This could do it you told -- that he didn't have enough money in you don't have that time the teacher Matt Light up. Now I don't know they went quite down that way. But sounds there's there is I think it was more in the realm of if -- -- if he's not alone the really come around practice a lot he's got no chance. Now so and I heard that. You know what I'm going to practice this year I'm I'm going to practice a lot. So that I don't have to answer the guys like Q. All the while while Ozzie reason why -- but they won't while while while when he wins pleased that look what do you think of the media really loved -- and I'm sure there's and I it is the media's blind. The media is all me there and are there are some guys out there on -- the covering this tour that you probably have some respect for Arthur sure. I mean there's there's there's a few that you know. The problem I have the problem I have with the media is the media says they want the truth but then when you give you the truth they don't like it. That's what I have -- when the media. Because of media wants to sensationalize. Everything they wanted. They want to put it in their own perspective so when you tell the truth than they can't sensationalize it then who that he can't say that. You know is. It's interesting to talk about the media because obviously I've been in the media for my whole life. I'm a columnist now so when I write something I'm still in the media but it's an opinion. When the guys that cover the tour on a daily basis and there that are out there on the grind and and they're supposed to right. Objectively. -- in and then there's a difference between a columnist what I do and want to beat writer would do then so does do do the guys that do what I do tainted. With the opinions and. I don't know I mean I guess I understand it's just like anybody I understand the avenue that you have to be in and the what you're looking at you know I mean your. Your -- and like you're saying you're throwing your opinion out there. But. Like I said the problem firm but someone like myself who's in in the business itself and I'm out there on a regular basis is the is the constant. Double standard -- college. That that the media has when it comes to you know who in the rest of us out there so. Like I said. When when you speak the truth and they look at you like wait a second but then they always say we want to tell the truth but then when you tell the truth. They'd look at you like way to say he can't say that because that's not right that's not the way we see it that's not the way it can possibly be because we don't see it that. And I think a lot of of what you're talking about is what happened at the PGA. While but I don't know goes deeper than doubt it but that was -- Really where you were in the maelstrom in the firestorm of competing one on one against tiger and you were out about it there in great detail I think -- message. During that tournament was misunderstood by the -- all do you agree with thought a lot of. -- was misunderstood by the masses is like a set of bad people come up to me. Nonstop to say that was nice you to say that because we've we agree with -- now the media was completely they didn't like it. They didn't agree with -- but I'll I'll throw an example the way I look at things the example was just a few weeks ago. If you take the number two player in the world Phil Mickelson and you take tiger and you flip flop method WGC in Iraq. Today. Tiger. If he is even remotely sick. Or if he has to go get IV treatments like Phil had to get that would have been the only story bar none would have been big. Perseverance. To the top of the you know how how how he's gone from -- and stick him in the hospital to coming out there and then staying so focused like he does and winning the golf tournament. To. Phil -- well -- just didn't play very good today and he just -- could make any pot instead instead of -- getting the same. And he's a number two player in -- instead of him getting the same accolades for what he accomplished. Here he is sick as a dog having to go get IV treatment they're still talking about how tiger is not quite a 100%. He's not making any putts that's why he's not challenging and and they're just saying oh by the way still was sick this week. That is a double standard and that so that's a part of the media that as far as golf that drives me crazy. Is that is that the media is that mostly print made here is that television because. Tiger does drive TV ratings and united are not Sammy doesn't but again. If you are covering the event. He won the event he was leading the event that should have been the main focus. And I get that okay so. Give that some props and give that the credit that it was due instead of just saying all by the way you know last night he had to go and get IBP. It again if it would have been vice versa same thing the US open. Tiger was hurt so that was it that was the only thing that was about well Phil was not feeling good either. 888 it never did it never gets the same it's never the same and like I -- I consider that a double standard here it's almost as if I guess says he's a number two player in the world he's won twice this year and yet he is so low were on the the credit scaled and tiger and I distinct that's ridiculous that it gets that way but that's to me that's how the media gets. It's it's just him and and everybody else's just a side note. And I think that's sad do you think the media reflects what the public. Thinks. None not not I think he obviously you're gonna have your fans and so the media drives right influences waksal because that's only talk about. That's all the talk about like it's -- you know again. He he is the best player in -- never going to dispute that -- have a good replacement I I don't see anything about him. There's nothing he's ever done right doesn't go -- say anything it has doing man I have nothing against him what's weren't talking about the media itself. I'm not saying that he's ever said he does he doesn't he keeps to himself he -- really quiet. How do you so he feels about well I all the attention you don't know because he just members you know it doesn't talk he does he really doesn't talk about anything. But. Like you say it's just to me it's just such a double standard just it just gets just gets to the point where. I know he supposedly. Does all the revenues for the tour gets everybody to watch or whatever but. When it becomes when it becomes such a big deal at an event that he's not that. That they talk about the fact that old you know he committed to an event you know on a couple weeks. I mean okay he committed to determine you knew it was going to play -- you know he's going to play. So that becomes the headline at the event that your -- just because he's committed to an event. How wasn't I think that's I think that's sat I -- I think it's that. How was applying a lot of these events early in the season without tiger was that Palmer was it so vulnerable endless love policy -- I'm just asking I'm I'm not trying to feed you lines I'm just curious how laws on my -- I'm I'm not saying anything against. Against him whatsoever as a you know elaborate. It's the same as it has been he's been on tour now for fourteen years there's. What -- almost thirty events a year he play he only plays nineteen events a year there's over twenty events here he never plays anyway. There's a lot determines you playing every year that he does apply. So you know. That's just the way it is so you know -- there's a difference when there's a difference when he plays there's no question. Tom do I feel like there's something different now that. The media brings it up and the media hype sit up. So sure you're going to probably have depending on the event -- depending on the event you're gonna have more people show up because he's there no question. But. Does he event feel any different now. I just I wonder about. And I know you you don't know the answer this -- but the percentage of golfers. Out there on the tour that. I don't know disdain is the right word or. You roll your eyes. Whether it's tiger. Or the media's presentation of tiger you know because. For example tiger is not an event they're going to ask you about tiger -- or if he is then they're going to ask you. What's going to take to beat tiger and I mean. You guys at the rest of you hunt for the rest of the golfers. Are going to get tired of hearing about it so. But I think maybe you hit it on the had already. Tigers -- good guy he's quiet he says all the right things so it's not necessarily about tiger -- what the media reports on your throats. Absolutely. My -- I've I've never and inning you can go back to what you're talking about as far as the PGA. They kept trying to say I called him out or whatever I never said anything to him or about him per say as a person or as what. I was strictly dealing what what they were talking about. They call me a hot hitter they say that I get -- visibly upset. There is no way you can convince me that his temper is less than mine -- is so much worse than mine it's unbelievable. He throws a club every single day. I don't throw clubs know that I get mad at myself absolutely out yell myself up and down. But here's a guy that's won what does he want now almost a hundred times or whatever he's got. Thirteen majors I got three victories and I'm not hot head. He gets pissed off every -- you. You've got that reputation for one brining in one thing and rightly so my big thing at the PGA was here he was. In his second round when he shot what was it 63. Boone in the second round only on he was on one to treat the fifty -- 42 under after forty's on the fifty. -- -- -- drive on -- par five and he hit it right and as soon as it right -- slammed his driver on the ground and yelled and they just laughed at that. If I would have done that after being two under after four they would rip me you know. And I said that is a double standard and that's what I was talking about what's anything about him -- -- about the actions in and that's a great got ripped on. First thing that's a great point I think we all recognize that tiger is wired. On the golf course we all we all know that I -- your right he does get a little bit of a free pass for the all absolutely whereas a guy like Woody Austin. Based on what happened at the saint Jude classic all those years ago. You don't get a free pass downtime any any time there's -- an inkling of flare up with -- He just it's. He just did it again at bay hill first round at bay hill. Third third tee shot at bay hill on number twelve. Flared it way right slammed the driver yelled -- and they laughed and they said Arnold. They are out there and stuff like that. And they were joking about it and Arnold went through his deal about his dad when he did it in his dad was my goal and he never did it again. But el Amin make big joke about it when he does. And now I guess that that is a double standard and that's what I'm talking to me that is a double standard. What gets me about Tiger Woods is maybe not necessarily slam his club and swearing because we can all. Relate to that he had absolutely and much about it Joe Joe regular golfer Cust is always up -- up but when he makes a putt. Or is closing in on a championship and the fist pump and and both hands in the air in the -- Yeah well. I don't necessarily. Remember any other golfer. Seeing them do yet other than Phil jumping up and down when he when he won wolves of the -- just. But that was kind of mild considering he just won the masters. -- if tiger girls in that when he floater more. That rubs me the wrong way Alou really yet does say I'm surprised by that because of the times he reacts on those are usually one native. Brought him within a stroll garden tolerated moments are in no -- they're good on home and there's a but and there's a dozen he's he's -- he's -- over I know but there's a thousand people on the green just watching him. And as it gets closer that the crowd starts to roar and I get -- you get caught -- -- him but. -- -- It's still I don't gentleman's game -- -- if you -- only make compared track I want you disagree gentleman's game but I want -- We like to see these players show emotion. Okay well I there NATO there is there ego like a set -- I like the really show much and Boller leading green again I totally agree like I said their it's such. To me it is such a double standard in that I have said it. I don't have any problems would be and told our our. I'm not nearly as bad as I used to be nowadays as I've gotten older now I know I'm not nearly the player right should have been nor could be. So I don't it is up to -- back in the day. When I felt as though I was talented enough to be good if I did not get mighty. My best out of myself I have I feel I have every right to be upset -- myself. But for me to be labeled as the hot head or behind it. They -- that's there is more than more than half. More than half the guys on tour let it worse and they were -- and what they don't get the media scrutiny V so it doesn't it's not brought out to the people so unless you're right there watch and guy. Do it there they have no idea. -- one of the reasons you're as well known as you are in golf circles and and you'll -- feel my emotions but yeah that's right dive little lake in new you know you've all they can you have some fun with that you. Again the worst temper barn on -- especially in the considering he's the best player in the game. But it doesn't seem to affect him you know it as fate as the media says it shows his competitive fire. In also he. The let's go through some of the guys that are out there week in and week out the may do we know about who were some of the guys you respect that if the do cover. The tour. -- I don't I don't talk enough to the media it to them to be able to decipher. Between the mall thrilling I'm an obvious guys that are obviously there are people out there that I don't have a problem talking to but. You know again what about Roger mall B assists this talk about Roger. All -- Roger mall based on -- Rogers Rogers old school Roger understands what's going on about the game and like I said everybody there's nothing wrong. With like I said talking about he is the best player in the world is nothing wrong -- do it again it's that it's the fact that. You're almost it's almost pushed. To the limit and it's just shoved down your throat that there's such a big gap between him and everybody else and that's department but he said it just it just gets old for god it's been out there nominee my fifteenth year it just gets old that that's the the theme every single year that she can't come up with. A year like Vijay had a couple years ago when he won ten times. It was even as great years that was and he caught tiger for you know that little period of time it still wasn't the the media blitz or the blown up that if it would have been role reversal that it would have been and I just think that's that. What about com analysts like a Johnny Miller who you know doesn't did did -- doesn't speak glowing in glowing terms about all the players on Johnny's. To speak his mind so that's you know again and that's fine if you're speaking your piece like I am now you're speaking your peace. That's fine that that's your opinion you're allowed to your opinion. Like I said the problem I have is the double standard. If you don't like what someone says then you're allowed to say if you don't like the way someone plays you're allowed to say it feel like the way someone acts that's fine. But when you when you allow one to do something. That the other one does. And it's and it is talked about in -- Anatoly different realm then that's a doubles does it. Brilliance on Tigers part to have a caddie that no one likes and that way it takes some of the that some of the good. You know some of the limelight off him because. Universally what's his name's these New Orleans no one likes -- guy I mean I'm in no one and here it. It's interesting to me because there is associated with. Not only the best golfer in the world and he arguably one of the best athletes in the world. Yet tiger kind of gets a free ride even from -- this guy has his caddie. On his bag -- it's it's just it's it it's it's very interesting to me me it's a free ride about it and that's what's -- the heat is it's it's an entirely differently said he's on -- he is on a pedestal that nobody messes with. It's sad is it is is similar to maybe a Michael Jordan it's it's one of those very rare things that that happens in sports and myself I don't Jordan. Macon side bets for thousands of dollars on the golf course everything want to compare how many accusations whether it's Michael Jordan whose home lives and amino. Remember -- yeah and now -- all pretty much teflon I don't know that I I mean now now we will. -- kind of brush into the side Zia 55 last night against the Wizards you know whereas in baseball with a guy like a Barry Bonds. Not teflon on all the steroids controversy when he's he's not the face of the game. What would happen like tiger somebody for a piece of felt would have well he pretty close staff. When it was that there. -- Petrino understood that -- such a different avenue because it's you're talking a team sport. You're talking about a lot of teams -- a lot of great players as opposed to an individual sport. And one person dominate an individual sport like he had more what happened to Tiger Woods. If some real controversy. Occured with him. Off the course the main you know just myself who -- because again you you don't know. Visited again when it comes to when it comes to his golf when it comes to his lively and his golf the way I look at it. This this anything is the first thing that's ever gone wrong. If anything it in all that's the first any kind of set back anything that's ever gone wrong in his golfing career that's the first thing. So who knows. He's already had thirteen years of tour life before anything ever went wrong with her. So EC -- it's kind of hard to say because he's he's -- live to the perfect. The same thing would door when it came to basketball there was no doubt there was nothing he can do when it comes to golf there's. To -- committee can't do -- everything's gone according to plan everything's gone smoothly he's never had. He's never had the bumps in the road this was his first bump in the road. And everybody else has had numerous bumps in the road you know I mean. Did Tennessee Tennessee won there at Tennessee has its do you have anyone everybody at Missouri before this Tennessee historically certainly as perhaps this standard regular season. Tennessee every airline all today Maryland there's and -- not done here. Yes this year this year yeah that's just because UConn was so much better than everybody else there were some good teams out there while beside you can't run the prominent -- is really good year after year so as Maryland but most of -- on the east coast but yeah there's eight or ten teams like. -- -- -- mighty -- it it's just such a smaller talent pool and it's just when you when you take most of the talent to one. 21 school is it. There's there's just not enough and women's basketball that we can see there that I see. That you can spread it around like and M and make it a very. Level playing field and that's why and they just showed a -- their back in the corner on the TV. Tennessee's 18. You cons 16. I think after that -- goes all the way down to two. Now granted it. There's other clearly the president do you gotta be erotica so so if it's third or fourth places to do. That that told that just tells you that there is no there is it did. That that sit there there there's there it is and then everybody else's just hoping that when Connecticut or Tennessee like Tennessee had their down years this year. Well they were hoping that Connecticut would have the same down years Tennessee bit. If one if one has a down year in the other one comes back strong. It just doesn't bode well for everybody else it just makes it tough on the other teams to go off recruit because. Let's face it you come out of high school you want to go to the program that wins. Well there's two programs that show year any year out they went so they get all the scalpel every year. Really makes it tough. Everybody else and we talk off the air about -- -- the guy that has unbelievable success next to pat Summitt I don't there's any question these. Most successful coach in women's college basketball yet here's a guy that. I only -- I think we all keep him at arm's length a little bit there's not a whole lot to embrace. About the personality of this gathered at that at least we see as he comes across on the on television. I never see an -- the much. Emotion out of the guy except when he's angry at his player that's only emotion I ever -- when he's on the sideline. Usually you'll see you know I said you'll see even last night to the young not coach for -- -- even when they're down you can see him pumping his players up you can see him. Do whatever he can keep his players. I never see that out Ahram. When you saw that in -- Williams and Thomas LUC great humanity as well as being. Tremendous basketball coaches means like -- dislike Roy Williams. There can be no doubt whatsoever that his players adore the gap. I think that was funny too is remember last night who again I watched again must not remember one of the analysts or whatever saying at the end of the game. Europe what 23 year whatever you into the game one of the reserves at the end of the game did not get the shot off before him the shot clock moved. And they said that -- -- wanted to be to -- that he wanted to go and yell at that player for not getting the shot clock again and getting a shot up. And reserve player whatever and so well -- probably still do it he's not going to do it now we don't unity he said but he'll probably still walk down he ended meant to the end and still get honor. And I mean that's you know. I understand that you still have to coach everybody knows that you know your job is coaching or whatever but. When you're known for that one at the end of national championship game that you want and you're up by point and you're still known by the people. That you're gonna get on this reserve for nothing get a shot off I mean. But there and yes yes that's really if there's some reason he's able to go in the homes and any I guess well the promise of hey you're going to come on you Colin you're gonna win that's that's what we do here you know. He Timmy he shows. Just enough. Of his teeth during your -- he'll smile here and there and he'll do that just enough. To keep you from thinking he's a jerk. He he he walks a fine line but I will say this to I don't I don't hear too many pat -- her views. That our whole lot different from hits. In that. It's it's about winning. And why it's not the you know build the bill when when asked or pushed into a quarter -- talk about what great kids they have in this snap never proud of them. But I think -- To a point but again. Look at what pat Summitt has done the last so many years now with Bruce pearl on the men's side. She's put on the cheerleading outfit that the guys games and now she's saying which she can't saying she. She has that. In her and she's proven that it's just again I don't think was ever shown before. But and -- players and her -- pass. On anybody who's been around pat -- and nine and I know Jane Albright had an. And Jody Adams obviously has -- -- they revere her in a way that. I guess I don't know anyone who's been around Gino RMI who played form but I know that I know double treat people who have been with -- some odd man. They speaker -- such glowing terms her as a human being and as a coach so well I mean you don't really isn't that. You know it's pretty big when you are the women's coach for all that period time when they were going out and recruiting -- and bring -- end Bruce pearl a lot of the people want to -- actually coach the boys. And to me one of those great thing about how how how much he loves the University of Tennessee in basketball. One of the great the things that defines a coach to me -- successful coach is not only winning. But it the end of your career how many players how many former players are going to come near retirement party. To me that says a lot about how successful you were as a coach -- I don't know how I'd again since it's worked again worked arguments that smaller at our smaller. Amount of schools and one -- but I don't hear too much. That you hear from the guys about graduation of these superstars that. Graduated in the girls game. Do they actually graduate forwarded their -- like in the and the boys game. -- to me even though he. Is looked at as. Quite uninteresting character I loved Bobby Knight as of as a basketball coach in that. The players not only knew what they were getting themselves into but he graduated in 98%. Over his entire. I hear -- I have to appreciate about nine more as a coach now that he's been on television as an analyst. I think that showed me a side of him that. I was kind of knew existed that he I think he was very hesitant or reluctant. To show that side of him when he coached obviously the guys witty smart. Intelligent I like him as an analyst on ESPN. So I guess I'm liking more as a coach now but I didn't. Previously. And yeah. It left us city so any time that he speaks of a particular game. You know you're gonna learn something that he. Cuts out the bowl. The doesn't seem to have. Any east coast bias for example when he talks about teams -- players. Any talks about this is I mean. This is what this team ought to do to be successful as well I see out of these and he you know you don't have to filter through the message like you do it by ten dollars some of these other guys he just gives you this group and because of his resume and all the wins and he has a national champ dips -- he has it resonates. Because when he gets right to it you know you've been informed. Fourth through 61240 if you have a question for what -- if you just want to -- with us. Wanted to get some thoughts on -- about. We have seen in awhile. T go to the Buffalo Bills and then in the state of the Dallas Cowboys your beloved. -- Dallas Cowboys. What do you think is Tony Romo automatically better quarter I I about throw loans. Well I think that automatically. Takes a big weight off his shoulder. Obviously it takes away some when he can throw to. But it takes such a big weight off his shoulders because let's face it as a young quarterback. Having to deal with TO as a young quarterback. Him being in year here all the time I'm sure no matter whether he'll say it or not I'm sure every time he went back to throw -- football in his mind. I gotta look at deal or he's going to rip -- -- gonna rip off. Now he doesn't have to worry about that so that right there is a huge weight off his shoulders. Now the question becomes can they get somebody that they can rely on the go to. Miles Austin looks like he could be a breakout star I'm Columbian did to see how miles does. I need Roy Williams and Roy Williams hopefully will be healthy. Gotten word did he wasn't healthy last year I didn't know. But. That was part of his problem he is a little banged up -- whatever. So hopefully he'll become the possession guy that he he was in Detroit with his size and his strengths and then miles -- be either of you know. Got -- can stretch the defense has miles looks like he he has the tools he just now he has the avenue hopefully steps up. We still have one of the best if not the best tight ends in the game and James wouldn't. Do you have a heck of -- running and -- yet so I Felix Jones I think can be a star in this -- absolutely sought -- you know so you know I don't hold out some hope absolutely why -- we were pretty good last year and I don't think we got worse -- better can you be better than than the Giants over the Eagles are absolutely one. And what they've -- Tony and Dario what if they'd done to make themselves I have to have what are they going to make absolute Saturday's loss Plaxico Burress which is akin to losing throw on skeptical about -- loss Derrick Ward. It's one of -- to get better -- that's a good question okay so we were just as good last year can we went just as far and actually were. Even better than the Eagles and then how how. How can an honest and I just don't want that to happen well that's not what I want to have patty that your boss I'm not a Cowboys fan while the media hearing that truth distorted and there -- go. Then again. Again you know island decided to. Or I'm throwing my support this year via -- I think it's with the Rams with the Rams I think come back with the Rams and our life and their coach or shopping their number two pick. They would listen to offers for that pick. In Allen they drive that they'd like to get a couple picks. Mean if they can move down so do what they think and -- any quarterback controversy here you know let they cited how all our. And they have Mark Bolger as a starter I think there there's they've given him so much money that Mark Bolger is a good quarterback he's a great in the right system. I think and the right coach I think he has he support actor and he's the only candidate pretend none whatsoever that guy gets -- here that everybody has no -- national -- Ice and that's -- like -- great. He just kids to -- Every so they need to bolster. Our offensive line and do some other things but their problem to me now mark boulders. Confidence level may be shot at a very high speed gun shy he may never be the quarterback. That he should have bend it. The reason it's not Mark Bolger it's that's what to put around on my opportunity. Let's take a break we'll come back we'll get the headlines. Last will be about baseball he follows baseball. Below that was an issue especially down the stretch in the game against Michigan State no doubt about it okay no doubt about time as I wrote. That was a huge issue that happened all year rock solid all year long after Ron Collins averaged three. Point three turnovers per game. As opposed to one point nine mu. Look at that different. From Lawson. Whoever six and six point six when he says oh yes the good news of our size and well I will continue going now that. Lawson played with Ellington green Thompson Davis Hansbrough. Fraser and Virginia aired before he got hurt only three games. Whereas Collins played with you. Vijay Singh and and mark Calcavecchia mean -- -- that's that's who he played with -- so by now Harrison and it's fun so. All those turnovers were their fault. I'm not saying that they weren't in I'm not saying anything about that I'm talking about. The fact you we got in the discussion about where he's going to make him niche in the NBA I think he'll do better I NBA than you are or it wouldn't know what I won't settle our president he's just an average normal. Any big guy in the NBA would. Do would you think so -- did you think Mario Chalmers will be as good in the NBA as he's turned out to be. Well I think Mario Chalmers -- because Mario Chalmers was such a great defensive player and in the NBA if you if there's his niche he can play. Defects and in the NBA let's face it that that's kind of a lost art the NBA no doubt about -- Mitch. On a team that. Didn't have a whole lot he's going to be able him make his -- and and get better because he's going to be on the floor all the time because they know he can shut somebody down. And here is starting for the Miami Heat while. Because buddhism Miami you know exactly what Jauron might give fortunate enough to get into a situation where he gets sent opportunity. Not a thing not over on 959 Hussein. Mario Chalmers veteran for a okay you're all Mario Chalmers also strong Guerrier on sports then what's. Hey Bob -- do and they agree with do you on this Colin citing -- the players this stat which basically team. He played for North Carolina -- like forget this this stat which Dave. So you can you can evaluate -- sure she can and I can't evaluate. Now in -- never saw it and now one game I thought it was otherworldly. No question. Paltrow shows sports daily. -- I don't ever -- but I have a ball five turnovers also -- -- all around Marilu I had some turnovers yeah what song called break up. Now the clutch. You all remember the shot you know Mario made but it wouldn't this -- would it matter that. They have Colin with the native reporter before. It said -- -- -- -- being -- -- but self. You know. What does it here are Cornell or -- I'm not clear he's not a very college players you're right about his toughness but I think. There -- a lot of tough players in the NBA I think you have to have. The talent level and I personally think he has -- to be better than just a guy out the bench I think he has the chance to be a starter for somebody not an All-Star. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Are you here yeah. Take him out if you take enough shots under the gun and make a few you're going to be considered clutch and he again he took an awful lot of shots and took. And and a lot of me ill advised as far as you know. From a from a standpoint of watching it as a fan Bob can Sharon Collins do -- Derrick Rose is done for the Bulls. Miss Derrick Rose is a better -- -- on columns I mean there's a reason Derrick Rose was at number one overall pick. Strong can't certainly would never be the number one overall pick. So of course not he's not not saying where's he going to go on the draft can he do those things can you do those things Derrick -- here is it is a player that has a chance of via. An All-Star for many years that strong Collins is an in that league in my opinion but I think strong columns can be a very good NBA player a starter. Yes that that would see that's what we're trying to say. There's so yeah if there's so many Derek roses in the NBA. Yeah Derek Fisher wrong colleges even close to Derek -- I think -- -- I don't think he's like I don't like Derrick -- head and shoulders above Chirac also amusing got -- could play and with that he wasn't head and shoulders above -- -- Collins. Derrick Rose women golfers -- pressure on Collins wouldn't go for -- according to out do NBA guys get a ride all the time action and no you drafted. I didn't declare for when would we were you drafted. They want to the NBA no under the -- in the Major League Baseball wise what you what rounds sixteenth in the Senate. Okay. But that they're tough -- that well one time you were sixteenth. The other time -- or seventh -- heck of a lot of picks were made to in the seventh and sixteenth rounds so there was obviously a disagreement. As a year long term projection. On the in the two drafts correct. I guess yeah I mean there's a thousand people literally a thousand players give -- -- that baseball exactly it's way different than basketball. You can make mistakes drafting in any sport you better not -- India. There's only 45 rounds there's too. Well now there's two there you go there.
